Buckfastleigh Town Council Meeting 20 January 2021 – Key Messages

1.   Precept – Council tax revenues in Teignbridge have fallen due to Covid 19 and Buckfastleigh was facing a significant shortfall in its budget. In order to keep the same income and not have to make cuts to services, which we feel are even more essential in the midst of this pandemic,  we have taken the decision to raise our council tax by about 11p per week (based on a Band D property)

2.   Planning Consultation – The Council will be submitting a response to the Government Supporting Housing Delivery and Public Service Infrastructure consultation highlighting our concerns and objections that the proposals will hasten the process of the decline of the High Street, contribute to further isolation of rural communities and erode local democracy

3.   Floodwater Gauge – The river Mardle floodwater warning gauge will shortly be replaced as part of our commitment to a resilient community.

Full minutes will be available on the website after the next Town Council Meeting.
