DESCRIPTION:Buckfastleigh is set to stage its 4th annual Christmas Fair on Wednesday 5th December from 4.00 – 8.00pm.  Visitors young and old coming to join in the fun and festivities can expect two fantastic new attractions for 2018! \nTo get you in the spirit\, the town’s first ever all weather skating rink\, complete with snow machine will be situated in The Globe Car Park.  Suitable for all ages and abilities this is an opportunity to have a bit of fun while keeping a dry bottom! \nIn between skating take a stroll down Fore Street to the Valiant Soldier\, the pub that closed its doors in the late1960’s and never re-opened.  For one night only this museum will open its doors for a truly nostalgic experience.  You’ll be able to dress in Victorian costume\, have your photo taken and enjoy a sing-a-long in the bar with pianist Andy Williamson.       \nIn keeping with previous years an action packed evening of fun is planned for the whole family.  This year’s entertainment includes: \n\nA street auction with a seasonal twist hosted by experienced auctioneer David Ship\, dig deep to support the running of this marvellous evening by bidding on one of the fabulous lots on offer\nThe Lost Sound-Dartmoor Folk Choir\nCarols sung by children from Buckfast and Buckfastleigh schools\nChildren’s entertainer the magical Sicromagic\nClassic songs of old from Peter Dell\nCarols on the Green held on the Millennium Green at 5:30pm\n\nShops and stalls galore!  With more than 40 street stalls selling a wide range of seasonal goods\, food\, gifts and much more\, it’s an ideal opportunity to shop for presents or the Christmas table.  There will be a giant bouncy slide\, balloons\, hot food & drink and all the delights of a seasonal event.  Many of the local shops will also stay open for late shopping. \nSanta has Buckfastleigh specially pencilled in\, so why not come and say hello!

DESCRIPTION:SOUP is a non-bureaucratic way to find out about\, support\, and fund local community projects. Starting in Detroit in 2010\, it is now run all over the UK and is particularly suitable for small projects and individuals trying to get funding for new ideas that benefit the local community. \nFollowing the success of a Teignmouth SOUP event in April\, which was attended by over 50 people and saw two local groups walk away with funding\, SOUP is now coming to Buckfastleigh. \nThe first ever Buckfastleigh SOUP will now take place on Friday 26th October 2018\, 6.00 pm at Buckfastleigh Town Hall\, supported by Buckfastleigh Town Council. \nThe idea is simple: Local people come together\, give a donation for a bowl of soup\, and listen to three or four people pitch their project idea.  \nPitchers each have the floor for up to five minutes and must rely on their passion and speaking abilities to win over the audience. \nWith the presentations over\, soup is served and participants will have time to think\, chat with others\, and mull over the ideas before choosing their favourite idea. \nThe winning pitches get to take home\, between them\, a share both of money taken at the door and of a £ 400 local donation. They get to use it to fund their plans\, with the promise they will come back to report on their progress at the next SOUP event. \nThose wishing to pitch should write a paragraph about their idea or project\, and send it to anja@teigncvs.org.uk  ideally by 11th October 2018.
