DESCRIPTION:BIG4 – Swim fast\, swim slow\, swim with a hat on your head\, have fun!\nBuckfastleigh Ice Gala is upon us again.  \nSince we started in 2016 we’ve been a little haven of ice swimming for those of you who love cold water\, or just want to challenge yourselves. We invite you to join us and celebrate with 80 odd people from the community of outdoor swimmers in the South West. \nWe have four races – freestyle\, head up breaststroke\, individual medley and relays. We also have a prize for the Best Dressed – hats\, costumes or whatever funky attire takes your fancy. \nThis year the money raised will go towards the cost of a new boiler\, ensuring that our pool is able to serve summer and winter swimming for years to come. But we also invite you to raise money for your own causes; as ice swimming is challenging. In 2016\, three relay teams from Newton Abbot College raised money for their school trip to Borneo\, for example. \nThe races and fees: \nFreestyle (42m) – men’s and women’s races. £10 + eventbrite fee \nHead up Breaststroke (42m) – men’s and women’s races. £10 + eventbrite fee \nIndividual medley (84m) – men’s and women’s races. One length of each of freestyle\, breaststroke\, backstroke and butterfly. £10 + eventbrite fee \nRelays (42m each x 4) – mixed teams. At least one of each gender in a team. £25 + eventbrite fee. \nNote – the race rules require you to wear no more than a swimming costume\, goggles and hat. Wetsuits\, rash vests\, thermal tops\, bottoms etc are not allowed. But there are exceptions for wacky costumes and hats! \nMore information\nThe gala will be at Buckfastleigh Pool. Just off the A38 in south Devon. Parking is adjacent. \nThere will be hot drinks\, soup and bread. And cakes\, lots of cakes. \nWe have hot showers\, shelter and a hot tent to help you warm up afterwards. \nOnce you’ve entered we will keep you up to date on the Buckfastleigh Open Air Pool – Victoria Park page on Facebook. DESCRIPTION:Buckfastleigh is set to stage its 4th annual Christmas Fair on Wednesday 5th December from 4.00 – 8.00pm.  Visitors young and old coming to join in the fun and festivities can expect two fantastic new attractions for 2018! \nTo get you in the spirit\, the town’s first ever all weather skating rink\, complete with snow machine will be situated in The Globe Car Park.  Suitable for all ages and abilities this is an opportunity to have a bit of fun while keeping a dry bottom! \nIn between skating take a stroll down Fore Street to the Valiant Soldier\, the pub that closed its doors in the late1960’s and never re-opened.  For one night only this museum will open its doors for a truly nostalgic experience.  You’ll be able to dress in Victorian costume\, have your photo taken and enjoy a sing-a-long in the bar with pianist Andy Williamson.       \nIn keeping with previous years an action packed evening of fun is planned for the whole family.  This year’s entertainment includes: \n\nA street auction with a seasonal twist hosted by experienced auctioneer David Ship\, dig deep to support the running of this marvellous evening by bidding on one of the fabulous lots on offer\nThe Lost Sound-Dartmoor Folk Choir\nCarols sung by children from Buckfast and Buckfastleigh schools\nChildren’s entertainer the magical Sicromagic\nClassic songs of old from Peter Dell\nCarols on the Green held on the Millennium Green at 5:30pm\n\nShops and stalls galore!  With more than 40 street stalls selling a wide range of seasonal goods\, food\, gifts and much more\, it’s an ideal opportunity to shop for presents or the Christmas table.  There will be a giant bouncy slide\, balloons\, hot food & drink and all the delights of a seasonal event.  Many of the local shops will also stay open for late shopping. \nSanta has Buckfastleigh specially pencilled in\, so why not come and say hello!
