The Food Bank operates from St. Luke’s Church on Fridays from 9.30 – 11.30am. An emergency telephone number is available from Voucher Distributors.
Food is only issued on production of a food voucher which is obtainable from the agencies listed below, which is being added to daily. The Buckfastleigh Food Bank covers the TQ11 postcode area, but is accessible to the former Buckfast Mill workers.
The food supplied is for a 3 day period to cover emergency/crisis situations. Up to 3 vouchers can be issued in exceptional circumstances. The Food Bank is intended to assist in the short term while longer term problems are sorted out. Voucher holders will be welcomed with tea/coffee and an opportunity to receive information on other helpful agencies.
The Buckfastleigh Food Bank operates under the umbrella of the Trussell Trust which mentors, supports and trains volunteers for 230 food banks in the UK. It also negotiates with food chains for the supply of appropriate foods. Only non-perishable, in-date foods to a speciafied list are supplied. The recipients are advised that the food is free and must not be sold on. There is a system in place which controls the issue of vouchers to avoid mis-use of the system.
Vouchers can be obtained locally from:
Job Centre Plus – Totnes and Newton Abbot, Boots Chemise, Buckfastleigh Surgery, Teign Housing, Citizens Advice, Police and others are being added including local schools
