Buckfastleigh Cinema ‘The Martian’

On Saturday 7th January Buckfastleigh Town Hall will again be converted into a large screen, high definition cinema for ‘The Martian’ starring Matt Damon.
The 14ft-wide screen gives the experience of being in a real cinema and the Town Hall’s modern P.A system and lighting rig add to the impact with an atmospheric cocktail bar downstairs serving cocktails, wine, beer, soft drinks and, of course, ice cream, popcorn and nibbles.
The first films, shown on Saturday 17th December, were How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Grand Budapest Hotel, which were a great success.
The aim, according to Buckfastleigh Town Council, which initiated the new venture, is to bring cinema back to Buckfastleigh, to run monthly screenings and to keep costs down. We want the community to have a big say in which films will be screened, so we’ll be setting up a registration system of some sort, but also we’ll just talk to people to get an idea of what type of films they want to watch. Hopefully this will grow so that we can have special themed events.
Bar open from 7.30pm. Film starts 8.30pm. Price £5 per adult £2 under 16.
