The Devon Greater Horseshoe Bat Project enables communities to learn about, celebrate and help to care for these enigmatic bats and the landscape they live in. Greater Horseshoe bats have declined by a whopping 98% in recent decades and about one third of those remaining in the UK are found in Devon, one of the few areas in Northern Europe where they are now found in any number.
We want the people of Buckfastleigh to feel proud of the Greater Horseshoe bats living near them, helping to spread awareness and enthusiasm about them, and taking practical steps to ensure their survival into the future. For example, small changes to the management of open spaces and gardens to make them insect-friendly are a great way to help improve their feeding areas.
