Key Messages from the Town Council Meeting held on 15.07.2015


Buckfastleigh Town Council Meeting- 15 July 2015 – Key Messages…..

1. Connecting Devon and Somerset – super fast broadband is beginning to be rolled out in Buckfastleigh – Town Council will be commissioning a series of FREE training events for local people – events will be specifically designed to help everyone from beginners to expert users get the most from IT – from using social media, learning to Skype, using apps and online marketing – questionnaires will be available shortly on https://www.buckfastleigh.gov.uk/ and at the library to help identify what people would like to learn about – training to be delivered in autumn.
2. Town Council grants – awards recently made to – Vintage Bus (£300), Wildspace Buckfastleigh (£250), Buckfastleigh Residents Association (£200), Community Care Trust (£250), Buckfastleigh Kings Cricket Club (£250) and Sailors, Soldiers, Airman and Families Association (SSAFA) (£100) – an extra round of grant awards will be introduced in autumn – watch out for more information about how to apply shortly.
3. Setting up a Community Council – an open discussion will take place on Wednesday 12 August at 7pm to discuss how the community can participate more in issues affecting the town – this will include identifying future council priorities and projects for the town – everyone is invited to attend and take part.
4. Town Council will be advertising for someone to carry out odd jobs / maintenance work at the Town Hall – watch out for more information on the web site and on Facebook.
5. Whitecleave Quarry Working Party is still to be set up – anyone interested in getting involved should contact clerk@buckfastleigh.gov.uk by 31 July 2015 – a small representative group will be invited to take part.
