Old Phone Boxes – Creative Ideas Please!

What to do with an unused phone box?  Buckfastleigh and Buckfast now have at their disposal four decommissioned phone boxes (two red, two glass) which are located at Glebelands, West End Road, in the car park next to Buckfast Village Hall and at Grange Green, Buckfast.  The one on Grange Green is going to house a defibrillator for use in the Buckfast community.  The Town Council is looking for great ideas for community uses for the other three.  They no longer have an electricity supply and are not listed (so could be painted another colour if desired).

All around the country people have been coming up with creative uses for their old phone boxes including:  stained glass colour therapy, cake sales, community library, defibrillator home, visitor information, micro-café.  What could we do here?  The Council will seek the views of the community before making any decision.

Members of the community are encouraged to think “outside the box”. Don’t be afraid to submit unusual ideas – they can sometimes be the best!  We want the phone boxes to fulfill at least one of the following roles:

  • Add to the character of Buckfastleigh
  • Promote tourism
  • Enhance the enjoyment and fun of living here
  • Provide a useful service

Please send any ideas to office@buckfastleigh.gov.uk
