Ray Staines has left his post as Town Ranger after two years of service. He has become a popular local fixture, bringing his wealth of experience and a thoughtful, considerate approach to the job and the people in our community. We will miss him and wish him well for the future.
We extend a warm welcome to our new Town Ranger, Gary Quest. Here’s what he has to say:
“I am delighted to be the new Town Ranger and hope to meet you sometime. I am a country boy at heart, growing up in the little village of Shaugh Prior on the edge of Dartmoor. I worked for Sibelco for the last 35 years and retired (early ?) on 31st December 2019. Tina and I bought our house in Buckfastleigh in February 2018 and wished we had moved here sooner. Enjoying a bit of DIY, we have renovated and extended the property with a little skilled help from local tradesmen, who have in a short time become good friends. We own and show dogs and have done for 40 years. You have probably seen our Chenrezi van driving or parked around town.
Also you may have seen me walking through town with my camera as I have my own photography business, my passions being Natural History, Fungi and Astrophotography. I am also a very passionate biker and have never been without 2 wheels.
I believe community spirit is key to a town like Buckfastleigh and I hope to be able to help in improving and developing the community spirit and soul through my work as Town Ranger. A helping hand or sometimes just a chat is all that’s required. Hope to see you soon.”
