New Housing Needs Survey (HNS) – We welcomed Mary Ridgway, Teignbridge District Council (TDC) Enabling Officer and Mandy Goddard, Devon Communities Together (DCT) regarding a new HNS for Buckfastleigh which would be facilitated by TDC, undertaken by DCT and supported by the Town Council. The last HNS was published in 2014.
Whilst some residents may question the validity of a HNS it is important that as many people as possible, even within the same household, complete the survey so that the data collected can be used to determine the need for affordable housing within the parish. Further information will be published in due course.
The Valiant Soldier Museum & Heritage Centre – Members were pleased to award the second half of the Larger Grant award (total amount £5,000) following completion of the repair and refurbishment of the ground floor meeting room which included substantial work to remedy the damp problem. This multi-functional space is now available for hire.
Buckfastleigh Residents Association (BRA) – Some members of the Town Council attended the BRA Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 16th April an association representing Teign Housing tenants. It was acknowledged that due to a declining number of volunteers the future of the organisation is at risk and existing members are looking for another charity in the town to take over the charity and responsibility for the children’s play park.
