Town Ranger Report June 2025

Buckfastleigh Town Ranger’s Summer 2025 Report.

Well, it’s certainly been a very busy couple of months, (as always). Summer has its own unique set of issues that need attention.

Buckfast bus stop at the top of Higher Mill lane has had coat of paint and is looking much refreshed.

Duckspond pond has been de weeded. The water quality is looking very good with an abundance of invertebrates, Tadpoles, Newts, Frogs, Damselflies and Dragonflies along with water snails spotted. The ducks are now really enjoying the expanse of open water.

As usual I have been reporting potholes and defective road surfaces to Devon Highways, and I have also been keeping an eye on the rivers for potential problems and blockages. The heavy rain we had a few weeks ago caused some issues with properties on Chapel Street.

I would mention again that it is always good to keep an eye on your gutters and drains to ensure a free flow of water or directing the water where it should be going. There is a sandbag store at the Town Hall and in Station Road car park. If you need to use them to assist with stopping your property flooding, please help yourself. You will however need to dispose of them when they are no longer needed.

In partnership with Dartmoor National Park (DNP) and the Town Council, Buckfastleigh Water Day on Saturday 26th July from 11.00am to 3.00pm at the Orchard Millenium Green will include professional bodies in attendance where you can get information on flood prevention among other family fun and informative activities.

Unfortunately, I currently have no strimmer as its off for servicing with DNP who supply the strimmer. Therefore, footpaths etc may become slightly overgrown until it is returned.

I am more than happy for anyone to approach me with any problems you may have if you see me out and about. Alternatively, you can email me at ranger@buckfastleigh.gov.uk or through the ranger Facebook page, Buckfastleigh Town Ranger. If I can help in any way I will.
