Town Council

Buckfastleigh Town Council is the most local level of government, that has responsibility for the parish of Buckfastleigh, which includes Buckfast and surrounding areas (See here for a map of the parish).

In 1973, with the introduction of the District Councils as a new middle level of local government, the Town Council replaced The Buckfastleigh Urban District Council, which was a much more powerful body, having council houses, parks & playing fields, tennis courts, swimming pool etc. Teignbridge District Council took over most of these assets and powers and responsibilities, leaving Buckfastleigh Town Council with just the Town Hall and limited powers and duties.
